The Daily Telegraph journalist explores Cabo de Palos during his visit to the Region of Murcia

The Region of Murcia recently welcomed British journalist William Cook, contributor to the prestigious newspaper The Daily Telegraph, as part of a press trip organized by the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports, through the Tourism Institute of the Region of Murcia (Itrem).

The aim of this ‘press trip’ is to showcase the tourism potential of the Region of Murcia through an upcoming feature article in one of the United Kingdom’s most influential media outlets, with millions of readers interested in quality travel experiences.

Over several days, the journalist explored different parts of the region to discover its cultural heritage, natural landscapes and gastronomy. Among the most notable stops was Cabo de Palos, where he enjoyed a full day focused on the coastline and local cuisine.

Visit to Cabo de Palos

During his time in Cabo de Palos, Cook visited the iconic Cabo de Palos Lighthouse, where he learned about its history and enjoyed panoramic views of the Mediterranean. He then toured the Cabo de Palos Visitor Centre, discovering more about the area’s natural environment and the Cabo de Palos – Islas Hormigas Marine Reserve, one of the Mediterranean’s most important diving sites due to its rich biodiversity.

The experience concluded with lunch at the Bocana de Palos restaurant, where he tasted some of the most representative dishes of local cuisine, as part of the ‘1,001 Flavours of the Region of Murcia’ initiative.

Promoting the Region internationally

This press trip is part of Itrem’s international promotion strategy, which seeks to strengthen the image of the Region of Murcia as a diverse, sustainable destination with its own identity, especially in key markets such as the United Kingdom.

The UK remains the main source of international tourists to the Region, with over 215,000 British visitors between January and July 2025, and total spending exceeding 253 million euros.

The director of Itrem, Juan Francisco Martínez, highlighted that these kinds of initiatives “allow us to share the essence of our destination in a direct and experiential way, showcasing its authenticity, year-round climate, and exceptional cultural and culinary offerings.”

Thanks to actions like this, Cabo de Palos and the Region of Murcia gain international visibility through influential outlets such as The Daily Telegraph, reinforcing their position as one of the Mediterranean’s must-visit destinations.
